Shri Vivek Kumar Gupta has been appointed as the new General Manager of Western Railway. Introduction:
Shri Vivek Kumar Gupta, officer of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) from the 1988 batch has been appointed as a General Manager by Western Railway effective from 11th July 2025. He previously served NHSRCL with his role as a Managing Director, the agency building India’s first bullet train corridor.
He has over three decades of experience in the rail operations, infrastructure and several coordination roles, making him an expert in the field. Western Railway has made a strategic decision to choose him as the GM to leverage his experience to strengthen operations and cut-down project execution time period.
Career Highlights:
- Managing Director, NHSRCL: Led the ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project with a strong focus on execution and international collaboration.
- Principal Executive Director/Gati Shakti, Railway Board: Oversaw seven departments and was vital in planning and execution of integrated railway infrastructure and station development projects under the PM Gati Shakti initiative.
- Chief Administrative Officer, Chief Track Engineer & Chief Bridge Engineer (WR & CR): Directed major works like new line constructions, gauge conversions, doubling, multi-tracking and bridge maintenance.
- Divisional Railway Manager, Bhusaval Division (CR): Focused on operational efficiency, safety, staff welfare, customer satisfaction, and revenue generation from 2019–2021.
- Chief Engineer, MRVC: Spearheaded implementation of MUTP I, II & III (Rs. 20,000 Cr) and initiated work on MUTP 3A (Rs. 34,000 Cr) involving coordination with global and regional stakeholders like the World Bank, AIIB, MMRDA, and CIDCO.
