Shree Cement Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding with RITES Ltd. to reinforce the rail infrastructure sector of the country. This collaboration involves efficient transport of cement and raw materials on the manufacturing facilities by Shree Cement. The role of RITES will be as a Project Management Consultant, its work will range from planning to execution of the projects for sustainable development.
Introduction:
Taking a crucial leap, Shree Cement Limited (SCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RITES Limited, a Navratna Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. This initiative will strengthen India’s logistical efficiency and promote sustainable transportation. The collaboration will accelerate the rail connectivity at Shree Cement’s key operational sites.
The partnership, initially valid for five years, can be extended by mutual agreement if it’s required. This initiative works well with Shree Cement’s long-term vision to upgrade its supply chain while aligning with India’s goals for decarbonized and energy-efficient industrial logistics.
Scope of Collaboration:
According to this MoU, RITES Ltd. will hold the reins of comprehensive consultancy and project management services related to rail infrastructure expansion and modernization at Shree Cement’s manufacturing unit. The services will include:
- End-to-end solutions from concept to commissioning of rail infrastructure.
- Planning and execution of new rail connectivity for transporting raw materials and finished cement products.
- Project Management Consultant (PMC) services, including feasibility studies, DPRs, and on-ground supervision.
Additionally, RITES will play a crucial role in securing mandatory statutory approvals and clearances related to:
- Civil Engineering
- Signaling and Telecommunications
- Overhead Electrification (OHE)
- Mechanical Engineering
Tendering and Vendor Selection Support:
Rites will help in evaluation and certification of contractors, that will help in precise coordination and timely construction. During the tendering phase, RITES will assist Shree Cement in choosing technically eligible executing agencies, allowing that only qualified vendors are engaged for infrastructure execution.

- Streamline logistics and lower transportation costs
- Adopt cleaner, rail-based transport over road-heavy alternatives
