PM Modi flags off rail revolution in Chhattisgarh: Lays foundation stones for 108 km of new rail lines and inaugurates MEMU service

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for seven new railway projects and dedicated three completed ones in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. These projects cover over 219 km of track and aim to enhance connectivity, employment, and electrification. On the Abhanpur–Raipur route a new MEMU train was also flagged off via Mandir Hasaud.


Introduction: 

In the significant step, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, during his visit to Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, laid the foundation stone, launched works, and dedicated multiple railway projects to the nation—marking a major boost in connectivity for the region.

Foundation Laid for 108 km of Rail Lines – Seven major railway projects covering a total of 108 km were initiated. These include:

  • Kharsia–Jharradih 5th Rail Line
  • Madwarani–Saragbundia 3rd & 4th Rail Line
  • Dadhapara–Belha–Dagori 4th Rail Line
  • Nipania–Bhatapara–Hathband 4th Rail Line
  • Bhilai–Bhilai Nagar–Durg 4th Rail Line
  • Rajnandgaon–Dongargarh 4th Rail Line
  • Kargi Road–Salka Road 3rd Rail Line

Projects Worth ₹2,690 Crore Dedicated – The Prime Minister also dedicated the following railway projects totaling 111 km:

  • Rajnandgaon–Bortalao 3rd Rail Line
  • Durg–Raipur Automatic Signalling Project
  • Dadhapara–Belha–Dagori 4th Rail Line

100% Electrification Milestone:

A major highlight was the declaration of 100% electrification of Chhattisgarh’s rail network, making it one of the few states to achieve this milestone. PM Modi emphasized how this will enhance environmental sustainability and reduce dependency on fossil fuels.

New MEMU Train Service Flagged Off:

He flagged off a new MEMU train service between Abhanpur and Raipur via Mandir Hasaud, offering better suburban mobility and daily commute convenience.

Massive Budget and Future Scope:

PM Modi mentioned that ₹40,000 crore worth of railway projects are currently underway in Chhattisgarh, with ₹7,000 crore allocated in this year’s budget to further boost regional and inter-state connectivity.

These transformative railway initiatives mark a new era for Chhattisgarh. With upgraded lines, enhanced signaling, full electrification, and increased employment potential, the projects are expected to strengthen logistics, support industrial growth, and improve daily commute for millions—paving the way for inclusive development and sustainable progress in the region.
