Noida Metro Aqua Line to extend by 2.60 km under Rs. 416 crore project

The Government of India has approved the extension of Noida Metro’s Aqua Line from Depot Station to the Multimodal Transport Hub (MMTH) at Boraki. The corridor spans across 2.6 km and will play an instrumental role in improving urban connectivity in Greater Noida. The project worth nearly Rs. 416.34 crore is a strategic step to accelerate infrastructure development and support multimodal networks. This work is scheduled to be completed within 3 years.


Introduction:

The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has announced that the Government of India has officially sanctioned the extension of the Aqua Line Metro Corridor. This  2.60 kilometers long extension in Greater Noida will connect the current Depot Station to the upcoming Multimodal Transport Hub (MMTH) at Boraki.

Before this approval the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has sanctioned the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the same project. This significant step towards urban connectivity and sustainable development shows the efforts of both the Central and State governments.

Project Overview and Alignment:

The proposed corridor will cover a distance of 2.6 km and include:

  • Depot Station (existing terminal)
  • Junpat Village Metro Station (new)
  • Boraki Metro Station (new)

The Boraki MMTH is envisioned as a mega transit node, integrating:

  • An Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT)
  • A Railway Passenger Terminal
  • A Local Bus Terminal

This multimodal strategy will improve access to Greater Noida and NCR, ensuring different transport systems like bus, train and metro can move seamlessly without any hurdles.

With approvals in place, the project is targeted for completion within three years. The topographical survey has been completed, and geotechnical investigations are underway. NMRC will soon initiate land acquisition through the Greater Noida Authority.

Funding Structure:

The project will be executed under a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) structure managed by NMRC with the following funding model:

Future Metro Extensions Under Consideration:

NMRC also provided updates on other proposed lines–

  • Noida Sector-51 to Knowledge Park-V (Greater Noida):
    • DPR approved by GoUP on 29.11.2024
    • Recommended by Network Planning Group in May 2025
    • PIB appraisal meeting expected soon
  • Noida Sector-142 to Botanical Garden:
    • DPR approved on 28.06.2024
    • Sent to MoHUA in July 2024
    • NPG recommendation in March 2025
    • Internal ministerial consultations completed

Conclusion:

The strategic decision to sanction the extension of Noida Metro’s Aqua Line is a necessary step for improving regional connectivity in Noida. The project is going to integrate rail, metro, and bus transport systems, it will improve connectivity and ease the commuter’s travelling journey. This project will reinforce the Noida-Greater Noida connection and also support a sustainable public transport ecosystem.
