The second phase of the Nagpur Metro Rail has achieved a significant milestone with the commencement of Overhead Electrification (OHE) activities at Reach-1A at Phase-2. Launched by Maha Metro MD Shri Shravan Hardikar, the Khapri–MIDC segment is anticipated to enhance connectivity and promote Nagpur’s socio-economic development.
Introduction:
The Nagpur Metro Rail project has made a significant advancement as construction on the second phase has officially begun. The launch of Overhead Electrification (OHE) operations at Reach-1A was conducted by Shri Shravan Hardikar, the Managing Director of Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited.
This segment, which links Khapri with the MIDC ESR, is expected to strengthen connectivity and boost Nagpur’s socio-economic growth.
Importance of the Khapri–MIDC Corridor:
The corridor connecting Khapri to the MIDC area is seen as a crucial development for Nagpur. It will:
- Provide faster and more reliable travel options for passengers
- Improve access to industrial and residential zones
- Reduce traffic congestion on busy routes
- Support Nagpur’s transformation into a modern, well-connected city

OHE Works on the behalf of KEC International:
The OHE works involve laying 25 kV overhead equipment essential for smooth metro train operations.. The electrification task is being handled by KEC International Limited, a leading company in railway infrastructure.
During the ceremony, senior officials of Maha Metro were present, including:
- Shri Vinod K. Agrawal, Director (Systems & Operations)
- Shri Anilkumar Kokate, Director (Strategic Planning)
- Shri Ranjit Deshmukh, Executive Director (Traction)
Their presence highlighted the significance of this achievement for the city and the metro project.
