Shri P. Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway and Chairman, KMRCL, along with Shri Anuj Mittal, Principal Chief Engineer, Metro Railway and Managing Director, KMRCL, led a trolley inspection of the West-Bound Tunnel from Esplanade to Sealdah on Green Line, showcasing the team’s dedication to timely execution.
Challenges Overcome at Bowbazar:
Work on this stretch faced repeated delays due to incidents of water ingress and tunnel collapse at Bowbazar on three occasions—August 31, 2019, May 11, 2022, and October 14, 2022. These challenges were overcome with advanced retrofitting methods, geophysical investigations, geo-stabilization techniques, and modern track fittings, marking a hard-fought victory after more than five years.
Celebration and Future Directions:
The team celebrated this milestone by posing with victory signs in the tunnel. Shri Reddy lauded KMRCL for its relentless efforts and directed a push for early commissioning of the entire Green Line stretch, a long-cherished dream for Kolkata, connecting Salt Lake Sector V to Howrah Maidan.
Conclusion:
The successful completion of this critical tunnel inspection showcases the resilience and dedication of KMRCL and Metro Railway. With the end of a long-standing challenge at Bowbazar, the Green Line is a step closer to transforming Kolkata’s metro network and fulfilling the city’s vision of seamless urban connectivity.
