Kanpur Metro begins U-girder erection on 4.5 km elevated section of Corridor-2

The Kanpur Metro has launched U-girder erection work on the Agriculture University–Barra-8 elevated section of Corridor-2, marking a key advancement in the city’s metro expansion. The first U-girder was successfully placed near Company Bagh crossing, with 184 U-girders to be installed along this approximately 4.5-kilometer elevated stretch.


Corridor-2 Overview:

Corridor-2 spans approximately 8.6 kilometres, with 3.977 kilometres elevated and a transition ramp connecting elevated and underground sections. The corridor will feature nine stations—four underground and five elevated—to improve connectivity across Kanpur.

Alignment Details:

Starting from Agriculture University, the Corridor-2 alignment moves south along VIP Road, passing key locations, including UPSRTC workshop, Mathura–Kanpur railway tracks, and R.S. Puram, before reaching Rawatpur, an essential integration point with Corridor-1 for future northward extensions.

  • Kanpur’s metro journey is set to revolutionise city transit, with trial runs starting soon on the IIT to Kanpur Central route.
