Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. has awarded RITES Limited a consultancy contract worth INR 4.69 crore. The project includes traffic and transport studies, DPR preparation for new metro routes, first and last-mile connectivity proposals, and land-based Value Capture Financing (VCF) strategies, aimed at expanding and modernizing Jaipur Metro’s network.
Phase 2 DPR Preparation and Extension Review:
- Conduct a detailed traffic and transport study for Phase 2 routes.
- Review the 2020 DPR for Sitapura to Ambabari (23.5 km) with an extended alignment to Vidhyadhar Nagar, making the total route approximately 30 km.
- Identify viable metro corridors and plan other potential extensions across operational (Phase 1) and proposed metro networks.
- Development of Viable Metro Corridors: Prepare a DPR for new metro corridors/extensions approved by the competent authority, covering a total of 21 km.
- First and Last-Mile Connectivity: Create a detailed proposal for seamless connectivity at operational and planned metro stations. Propose parking facilities at key metro stations to enhance commuter convenience.
- Value Capture Financing (VCF): Develop a proposal for leveraging land parcels owned by Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) along metro corridors to generate additional funding.
Project Background:
- Jaipur Metro was originally designed in two phases:
- Phase 1 (East-West Corridor): Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar (11.64 km).
- Phase 2 (North-South Corridor): Sitapura to Ambabari (23.5 km).
- Currently, Phase 1 operates successfully with a punctuality rate of approximately 99%.
Phase 1 Expansion Underway:
- Phase 1C: Badi Chaupar to Transport Nagar (2.85 km).
- Phase 1D: Mansarovar to Ajmer Road Chauraha (1.35 km).
Need for DPR Update:
Since the last DPR update in 2020, Jaipur has seen significant infrastructural and traffic profile changes. The revised DPR will address these changes while aligning with government directives.
Proposed Route Alignments:
Route | Length (Approx. in Km) |
Sitapura to Ambabari (Phase 2A) | 30 km |
Ambabari to Vidhyadhar Nagar (Phase 2B) | 7 km |
Badi Chaupar to Ajmeri Gate | 3 km |
Transport Nagar to Sanganeri Gate | 3 km |
Mansarovar to Sanganer Police Station | 12 km |
Ajmer Road Chauraha to Heerapura ISBT | 3 km |
Total Proposed Network | 61 km |
Conclusion:
The consultancy contract awarded to RITES Limited marks a pivotal step in expanding Jaipur Metro’s network. By integrating updated DPRs, traffic studies, and land-use financing strategies, JMRC aims to modernize urban mobility, enhance connectivity, and cater to Jaipur’s growing transportation needs, fostering sustainable and efficient metro infrastructure development.
