IRCON successfully completes 122.8 km Kiul-Gaya rail project, boosting passenger services and connectivity

The 122.8 km Kiul-Gaya double line project under East Central Railway has been fully commissioned with the final Nawada-Tilaiya section receiving safety clearance. Executed by IRCON, the project includes major infrastructure upgrades, enhancing passenger and freight efficiency in Danapur Division. This milestone marks a significant boost for regional connectivity.


Final Section of Kiul-Gaya Rail Project Commissioned:

The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) granted authorization on February 5, 2025, for passenger operations on the Nawada-Tilaiya section, the last block of the 122.8 km Kiul-Gaya double line project under the Danapur Division of East Central Railways. This milestone marks the full commissioning of the electrified double line, executed by IRCON.

The ambitious project involved:

  • 31 major bridges
  • 301 minor bridges
  • 10 new station buildings
  • 2 freight handling facilities
  • Yard remodelling and loop lines at 10 stations

These enhancements are set to improve rail operations, ensuring better passenger convenience and freight movement efficiency.

Project Timeline & Commissioning Stages:

  • IRCON was assigned the project by the Railway Board on December 11, 2015, with commissioning completed in phases:
    • Manpur – Wazirganj (18.15 km) – Dec 2019
    • Wazirganj – Tilaiya (17.63 km) – Sep 2022
    • Lakhisarai – Sheikhpura (25.32 km) – Feb 2023
    • Sheikhpura – Kashichak (15.38 km) – Sep 2023
    • Kashichak – Warisaliganj (9.87 km) – Jan 2024
    • Warisaliganj – Nawada (19.13 km) – Jul 2024
    • Nawada – Tilaiya (17.32 km) – Feb 2025
