Indore Metro achieves milestone with addition of 15th train set to Yellow line at Gandhinagar depot

Indore Metro’s Yellow Line strengthens its network with the addition of the 15th Movia trainset at Gandhinagar Depot. Manufactured by Alstom, the three-car trains are equipped with CBTC signalling and advanced passenger-centric features, reinforcing Indore’s commitment to sustainable and smart urban mobility.


Introduction:

In a significant development for the city’s metro connectivity, the Indore Metro Yellow Line has received its 15th three-car trainset at Gandhinagar Depot. Shri S. Krishna Chaitanya, Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL), congratulated the entire team for achieving this milestone.

The trainsets, part of Alstom’s renowned Movia platform, were engineered and manufactured at the company’s world-class facility in Savli, Gujarat. The first trainset was delivered in a record time of 14.5 months, directly to MPMRCL in August 2023—underscoring Alstom’s efficiency and commitment to project timelines.

Trainset Details & Line Coverage:

  • Each three-car train accommodates around 350 passengers (50 seated and 300 standing), maximizing efficiency and passenger comfort.
  • The metro is designed to operate at speeds of up to 80 km/h, covering Indore’s 31.5 km-long Yellow Line with 29 stations.
  • Currently, 15 trainsets have been delivered to Indore and 8 to Bhopal under the shared metro development programme.

Alstom’s Scope of Work:

  • Design, manufacturing, and commissioning of 52 three-car trainsets for Bhopal and Indore metro.
  • Installation of advanced Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling and telecommunication systems.
  • 7 years of initial system maintenance.
  • 15 years of FlexCare Perform long-term maintenance services.

Out of the 52 trainsets, 25 are allocated for Indore Metro to ensure high-frequency, reliable service and reduced waiting time for passengers.

Focus on Safety, Sustainability & Passenger Experience:

These air-conditioned metro coaches belong to Alstom’s global Metropolis range, which prioritizes sustainability and passenger well-being. Key features include:

  • Eco-design: Use of recyclable, non-toxic materials and low carbon footprint components
  • Energy Efficiency: Traction systems with regenerative braking and smart lighting technologies
  • Smart Systems: Integrated Train Control and Management System (TCMS), automatic track inspection, and AI-powered safety features
  • Passenger Comfort: Real-time communication, onboard CCTV, unattended object detection, and accessible facilities such as dedicated space for wheelchairs

This focus on green mobility and intelligent transport underscores Indore Metro’s vision of creating a smarter, more inclusive transport ecosystem for its citizens.
