Hyderabad Metro takes a leap in sustainable urban transport with EVZIP’s launch of electric cars and women-driven two-wheelers. This initiative, flagged off by HAML and L&T Metro Rail officials, aims to bridge first-last mile connectivity gaps, empowering commuters and female drivers while promoting Hyderabad’s vision for cleaner, smarter mobility solutions.
Hyderabad Metro’s Vision for Sustainable Mobility:
Hyderabad is rapidly evolving into a global smart city, and its Metro Rail system plays a key role in this transformation. With ambitious expansion plans extending the network beyond 200 km, the city is striving for a seamless, eco-friendly urban transport system.
Bridging the Last-Mile Gap:
To complement Metro connectivity, EVZIP has introduced a fleet of electric cars and women-driven electric two-wheelers. This initiative, spearheaded by HAML MD Mr. NVS Reddy and L&T Metro Rail MD Mr. KVB Reddy, aims to ease the first-last mile transit challenges for daily commuters.
Mr. NVS Reddy, said “Till now, nine companies, including EVZIP, have been providing services under the ‘First and Last Mile Connectivity’ project. Of the approximately 5 lakh people who use Metro Rail daily, 1.25 lakh are being transported to their destinations through these services.” These services make it easier for commuters to complete their journeys by offering quick, eco-friendly transport options to and from Metro stations.
Empowering Women with ‘EV Zip Esha’:
A standout feature of this launch is ‘EV Zip Esha’—a women-driven electric two-wheeler service, creating employment opportunities while promoting sustainable transport. Initially, 100 e-scooters will operate from key Metro stations like Parade Grounds and Secunderabad East, with planned expansions to Malkajgiri, Sainik Puri, and ECIL.
Mr. NVS Reddy added “This is a significant step in ensuring that women have more opportunities in the transportation sector while contributing to the city’s goal of sustainable mobility.” The introduction of ‘EV Zip Esha’ not only boosts the accessibility of eco-friendly transport but also supports gender inclusivity in the workforce.
A Greener Future for Hyderabad:
The introduction of electric mobility solutions is part of Hyderabad’s larger strategy to reduce carbon emissions, ease congestion, and make public transportation more accessible. With continued Metro expansion and further EV integration, Hyderabad is setting a benchmark for sustainable urban mobility in India.
Mr. NVS Reddy put it, “The Metro Rail expansion is in line with Chief Minister Mr. Revanth Reddy’s vision to make Hyderabad a global city with world-class infrastructure.” By integrating sustainable transport options like electric vehicles into the Metro network, Hyderabad is taking bold steps toward a greener, more efficient urban future.
Conclusion:
EVZIP’s initiative marks a major step towards an efficient, green, and inclusive urban transport system in Hyderabad. By strengthening last-mile connectivity and empowering women drivers, this move not only enhances Metro accessibility but also aligns with the city’s long-term vision of a cleaner, smarter, and more commuter-friendly future.
