DMRC awards Rs. 447 crore contract to RVNL for design and construction of viaducts at 7 stations under Delhi MRTS phase-4 project

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has awarded a major contract worth over Rs. 447 crore to Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). The order involves design and construction of a 7.3 km viaduct for seven stations on the Saket G Block to Lajpat Nagar corridor under the Delhi MRTS Phase-4 project. 


Introduction:

In a significant step towards improving Delhi’s urban transit infrastructure, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) has assigned a civil contract to Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). The stated contract is a part of the ambitious Delhi Metro Rail Transit System (MRTS) Phase-4 expansion project.

The order includes the design and construction of 7.298 km long elevated viaduct from Chainage 1202.782 meters to 8501.25 meters, it covers significant urban sectors in South Delhi. The work will be done on 7 key metro stations — Pushp Vihar, Saket District Court, Pushpa Bhawan, Chirag Delhi, GK-1, Andrews Ganj, and Lajpat Nagar. The construction involves only the platforms of each metro station.

  • Viaduct Length: 7.298 kilometers
  • Station Platforms: Construction of 7 station platforms
  • Structural Features: Pre-Engineered Building (PEB) Structures at all station locations
  • Corridor: From Saket G Block to Lajpat Nagar

The awarded contract costed Rs. 447,42,48,757.33) has a strict execution period of 36 months, it is scheduled according to the rollout timeline of the Phase-4 corridors.

Strategic Significance:

  • The Saket G Block to Lajpat Nagar is a key in the Phase-4 project of Delhi Metro, the advancement in this corridor will directly lead to better connectivity in South Delhi. 
  • The project aims to improve connectivity in South Delhi by providing seamless connectivity to the residential, commercial and institutional areas in South Delhi.
  • It will significantly reduce the congestion in the high traffic areas and in term will improve connectivity as well as save time of the commuters.
  • The project is going to use Pre-Engineered Building (PEB) structures that will save engineering time, cost as well as improve durability. Delhi metro is using advanced engineering techniques to build better urban transit infrastructure. 

RVNL’s Role:

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) is a PSU under Ministry of Railways, recognised for building modern railway infrastructure like electrification, track laying, bridges, and metro rail construction. The order from DMRC will elevate the position of the company in the infrastructure construction at the urban transit sectors in India.

Conclusion:

The recent contract is a step towards operational readiness of the Delhi Metro’s Phase-4 project, aimed to improve regional connectivity. This initiative will reinforce RVNL’s role as a vital contributor to India’s urban mobility sector. With construction scheduled over the next three years, the project will improve last-mile connectivity and boost infrastructure development in South Delhi.
