The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has set a new record by constructing its highest-ever point at Haiderpur Badli Mor Metro station, surpassing Dhaula Kuan’s previous milestone. The 490-meter stretch on the Magenta Line Phase-IV extension now stands at 28.362 meters, marking a significant engineering achievement in India’s metro network.
Highest-Ever Elevation Near Haiderpur Badli Mor:
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has achieved a remarkable engineering feat in its Metro Phase-IV Magenta Line Extension (Janakpuri West – R.K. Ashram Marg) corridor by constructing the highest-ever section of the Delhi Metro network. The record-breaking stretch, located near Haiderpur Badli Mor Metro station, reaches an impressive rail level height of 28.362 meters at Pier No. 340, surpassing the previous highest point of 23.6 meters at Dhaula Kuan on the Pink Line.
This 490-meter elevated section crosses over the Outer Ring Road and the existing Yellow Line (Samaypur Badli – Millennium City Centre Gurugram). Achieving this milestone required meticulous planning and precision engineering, especially for the construction of a steel span over the operational Yellow Line.
Engineering Challenges & Innovative Solutions:
- The construction of this record-breaking segment involved multiple complex tasks, including reinforcement work, pier casting, and the installation of prefabricated components.
- Due to limited space, engineers designed an alternative support system using Macalloy bars instead of conventional ground-based supports, ensuring structural stability and worker safety.
- Another critical aspect of this project was the erection of a 52.288-meter-long steel span at the railway crossing near Haiderpur Badli Mor Metro station, now the second-highest elevated stretch in the Delhi Metro network at 27.610 meters.
- This segment was lifted and installed using two heavy-duty cranes, each handling 142-metric-ton steel girders with extreme precision due to the proximity of live railway tracks and overhead electrical wires.
Strategic Execution to Minimize Disruptions:
- To avoid disruptions to metro and railway services, the construction was carried out during non-operational hours at night.
- This ensured that regular passenger movement remained unaffected while allowing engineers to execute tasks with minimal risk.
- Once operational, the Magenta Line Phase-IV extension will significantly improve connectivity in the region, reducing travel time and enhancing the efficiency of Delhi’s metro network.
Conclusion:
Delhi Metro’s latest engineering milestone at Haiderpur Badli Mor sets a new benchmark in urban infrastructure development. The completion of the highest and second-highest elevated stretches in the network highlights DMRC’s commitment to innovation and efficiency. Once operational, the Magenta Line extension will offer enhanced connectivity and convenience for commuters.
