PM Modi launches major rail projects, flags off Amrit Bharat & Vande Bharat trains in Bihar

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated significant rail projects and flagged off multiple trains in Bihar, including the foundation of the Bikramshila–Katareah rail link and inauguration of the Araria–Galgalia rail line. He flagged off several trains including Amrit Bharat and Vande Bharat express trains. These developments will improve connectivity, tourism, trade and boost economic growth with regional integration.


Introduction:

In line with the Government’s focus on transforming rail infrastructure, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple railway projects in Bihar, marking a significant boost to connectivity, regional trade, and cultural integration. Together, these projects are valued at more than Rs. 6,500 crore.

Bikramshila–Katareah Rail Line:

The foundation stone for the 26.23 km Bikramshila–Katareah rail line, worth over Rs. 2,170 crore, was laid to provide a direct rail link across the Ganga. This project is expected to benefit districts such as Bhagalpur, Purnea, Katihar, Madhepura, and Araria. Importantly, it will strengthen connectivity to historic sites like Bikramshila and Bateshwar Nath Temple, while boosting economic development in aspirational districts like Bhagalpur.

Araria–Galgalia (Thakurganj) Rail Line:

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the 111 km Araria–Galgalia rail line, constructed at a cost of over Rs. 4,410 crore. This new route enhances direct rail connectivity between Araria and Kishanganj districts. It is poised to accelerate the transportation of agricultural goods, generate employment, and foster infrastructure growth. The line will significantly support rural and semi-urban populations, offering affordable and reliable travel options.

Vande Bharat Express: Jogbani–Danapur:

Adding to Bihar’s modern rail services, the Vande Bharat Express between Jogbani and Danapur was flagged off. With semi-high-speed capability, world-class amenities, and Divyangjan-friendly facilities, the train connects key districts including Araria, Purnea, Madhepura, Saharsa, Khagaria, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Begusarai, Saran, and Patna. This route will open up new opportunities for education, healthcare, and employment while boosting tourism and the local economy.

Amrit Bharat Express Trains:

Two Amrit Bharat Express trains were also launched:

  • Saharsa–Chheharta (Amritsar): Providing direct connectivity between Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, and Punjab, this service links major pilgrimage sites such as Haridwar and Amritsar.
  • Jogbani–Erode: Establishing a vital connection between Bihar and Tamil Nadu, this train links Eastern and Southern India, covering states like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.

Both trains feature upgraded interiors, modern facilities, and enhanced comfort with new-generation LHB coaches.

Katihar–Siliguri Express via Araria–Galgalia:

Additionally, the Katihar–Siliguri Express via the Araria–Galgalia section was flagged off. This service strengthens interstate connectivity between Bihar and West Bengal, easing congestion on existing routes while boosting trade and travel between the two states.

  • Inauguration: Araria–Galgalia (Rs. 4,410 crore).
  • Flagging Off: Vande Bharat (Jogbani–Danapur).

Conclusion:

The inauguration and foundation stone laying of these projects is a crucial step towards  Bihar’s railway modernization. With new rail lines and better train services, the initiatives poised to boost trade, tourism, and mobility. These developments will foster stronger cultural and economic links between Bihar and the rest of India.
