Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory, a subsidiary of Jupiter Wagons Ltd., has bagged a Rs. 113 crore contract from the Ministry of Railways to supply 9,000 LHB axles for FIAT-IR bogies. This  work will reinforce JWL’s position in India’s rail modernization drive, while supporting Make in India and reducing import dependency.

Introduction:

Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory Private Limited (JTRFPL), the material unlisted subsidiary of Jupiter Wagons Limited (JWL), has been awarded a significant order by the Ministry of Railways. The contract worth Rs. 113 crore, includes the supply of 9,000 LHB axles for FIAT-IR bogies, a vital component for the modern passenger coach fleet of Indian Railways.

The project showcases the JWL’s expanding footprint as a trustworthy supplier of precision-engineered products that contribute to the performance and safety of India’s rail ecosystem.

Strategic Importance of the Order:

The order represents a strategic boost to the modernization of Indian Railways. LHB axles, used in high-speed Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches, ensure durability, safety, and operational efficiency. With increasing demand for modern passenger rolling stock, JWL’s contribution aligns directly with the Government of India’s efforts to create a safer, faster, and future-ready rail network.

Key Highlights:

  • Order Size: 9,000 LHB axles
  • Value: Rs. 113 crore
  • Application: FIAT-IR bogies for LHB coaches

JWL has already established itself as a strong player in the rail components segment, particularly for passenger rolling stock. Its Aurangabad facility has been consistently delivering 10,000 wheelsets annually, underscoring its proven manufacturing capacity.

Looking ahead, JWL is executing a long-term capacity-building strategy through the development of a world-class forged axle and wheel manufacturing facility in Odisha. With an investment of Rs. 2,500 crore, this plant aims to produce 100,000 forged wheelsets annually by 2027. These wheelsets will cater not only to the Indian market but also to international clients, including the European Union.

This strategic initiative is expected to significantly reduce India’s reliance on imports while strengthening domestic manufacturing in line with the Make in India program.

Contribution to India’s Rail Vision:

The order reinforces JWL’s critical role in shaping India’s passenger rail ecosystem. By delivering advanced axles for high-speed coaches, the company is contributing to key national goals:

  • Modernization: Supporting the transition to LHB coaches known for higher safety and comfort.
  • Self-reliance: Reducing dependence on foreign axle imports.
