Shri Satya Prakash, a distinguished officer of the 1988 IRSE batch, has taken charge as Additional General Manager of South Central Railway. He has worked 35 years in the Indian Railways and has experience of working in vigilance, engineering, international project, and training roles. He also contributed to railway construction and electrification; his extensive experience in the field makes him a perfect fit for the post.
Introduction:
In a prominent leadership appointment, Shri Satya Prakash, an officer of the 1988 batch of Indian Railways Service of Engineers (IRSE), took over as the Additional General Manager (AGM) of South Central Railway on 4th August 2025. The joining ceremony took place at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad, a developmental step in the region’s administrative and operational framework.
A Distinguished Academic and Professional Background:
Shri Satya Prakash holds a Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, laying a strong technical foundation for his career in the Indian Railways. His academic credentials have been enhanced further through international training at INSEAD, Singapore, and ICLIF, Malaysia, enabling him to bring a global perspective to India’s railway modernization.
35 Years of Illustrious Service:
With over three and a half decades of professional experience, Shri Satya Prakash has held several critical roles in Indian Railways:
- Chief Administrative Officer (Construction), South Central Railway – prior to his current posting.
- Director/Vigilance, Railway Board – handling critical oversight responsibilities.
- Project In-charge, IRCON International Limited, Malaysia – showcasing global project execution capabilities.
- Director/Track, Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) – focusing on track innovations and safety.
- Principal Chief Engineer, Central Organisation for Railway Electrification (CORE) – where he contributed significantly to the electrification mission.
- Dean, Indian Railways Institute of Civil Engineering (IRICEN), Pune – leading training and capacity-building initiatives for civil engineers.
- Started his career as Assistant Engineer, Surender Nagar on Western Railway and also served in North Central Railway.
Recognitions and Contributions:
Shri Satya Prakash was honoured with the prestigious Railway Minister’s Award for his contributions while serving at CORE, Allahabad. His technical expertise is also reflected in his published research, including three technical papers on Long Welded Rails on Girder Bridges, demonstrating his commitment to innovation and safety in rail engineering.
