Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw laid the foundation stone for redevelopment works at Karpoorigram Station and inaugurated several passenger facilities. A new railway subway between Karpoorigram and Khudiram Bose Pusa stations was also announced and he inspected Digha Bridge Halt too. The Rs. 17.30 crore investment aims to upgrade infrastructure, reduce traffic congestion, and allow a safer travel experience in Bihar.
Introduction:
In a bold initiative to modernize railway infrastructure in Bihar, Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw laid the foundation stone for multiple redevelopment projects at Karpoorigram Station under the Samastipur division, also inaugurated passenger amenities.
Inspection and Commitment to Modernisation:
The Minister first inspected Digha Bridge Halt during his visit, reviewing major aspects such as–
- Passenger facilities
- Cleanliness and sanitation
- Availability of drinking water
- Platform and lighting conditions
- Safety and security measures
Focussing on Indian Railways’ priority, Shri Vaishnaw directed railway officials and staffs to rapid infrastructure advancement with a passenger-centric approach.
Foundation Stone for Redevelopment Works:
The foundation stone was laid for station redevelopment works worth Rs. 3.30 crore at Karpoorigram. The upcoming upgradation will involve–
- Upgraded station building
- Modernized and sanitized waiting rooms and toilets
- Digital passenger information systems
- Better drinking water facilities
- Ramps and accessible facilities for the differently-abled
These upgrades are expected to offer a more comfortable and inclusive experience for all passengers.
New Subway for Seamless Movement:
Shri Vaishnaw also performed the Bhoomi Pujan (groundbreaking ceremony) for a crucial underground railway subway at Level Crossing Gate No. 59 ‘C’ between Karpoorigram and Khudiram Bose Pusa stations. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 14.0 crore and it aims to–
- Eradicate traffic bottlenecks at the level crossing
- Allow seamless and safer train operations
- Accelerate local connectivity and lower commuter inconvenience
This infrastructure upgrade is expected to significantly benefit both passengers and local residents by improving traffic flow and reducing wait times.
Highlighting Railways’ National Progress:
The Union Minister highlights the Indian Railways’ progress under the current government. He highlighted that over 35,000 kilometers of new railway lines have been laid in the past 11 years, outpacing the achievements of previous regimes.
These extensive developments, he said, are not just about transportation but are deeply connected to economic growth, regional connectivity, and national integration.
He further emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring states like Bihar are equal partners in India’s journey towards becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
Dignitaries in Attendance:
The event also witnessed the presence of Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Ramnath Thakur, as Guest of Honour. Multiple local representatives, senior railway officials, and enthusiastic citizens marked their presence, showcasing strong community support for the initiatives.

The Rs. 17.30 crore investment at Karpoorigram Station reflects Indian Railways’ growing focus on passenger safety, modernization, and regional upliftment.
